Eagles ๐ฆ Vs Brooklands C.C.
๐ฐ๐ MATCH REPORT๐๐ฐ
Just three runs made the difference as the U9 Eagles lost in a close encounter at Kingsbrook Road.
Captain Fin won the scissors, paper stone challenge and put Brooklands into bat.
Mixed speed and control from Yaqoob brought him two wickets. Nayan also got through the Brooklands defence to hit the stumps.
The rest of our bowlers bowled tight lines but sadly to no reward this time.
James L and Caolan were both very economical in their tidy spells. James G, whose confidence is rightly improving, impressed in his set.
Fin and Ethan were both unlucky today and Patrick continues to bowl with venom!
The work in the field was mixed. There were some super stops of hard hit balls. And some good team encouragement. But there were also costly overthrows that handed runs to Brooklands - something we can remedy at training.
Brooklands set the target of 303.
Patrick and Finlay, set the team off to a steady start. A much improved defence from Fin worked well with the swashbuckling Patrick who, at almost a run a ball, managed two boundaries.
James Lโs impressive run with the bat continued, hitting a nice straight drive for four. His partner James G had an assured innings and clipped a nice boundary off his legs. The pair enjoyed some good running between the wickets.
Caolan and Nayan were pinned down by some quality Brooklands bowling. There was good technique and good communication from the batters who dealt in singles to keep the scoreboard moving. Despite the tight bowling, Nayan managed to blast a boundary.
The chase of 303 was always a tough ask. And when our closing pair of Ethan and Yaqoob came to the crease, the game was all but lost. The pair however, had other ideas! Ethan's three from the first ball set the pace.
With smoke lingering in the air, the moorlands weren't the only thing on fire, as Yaqoob then smashed an incredible 48 from 16 balls with 10 fours. A memorable innings with technique above his years. ๐ฅ
But it was not to be. Whalley Range fell three runs short. Another day, it might have been a different story. Well played boys!
